Textile artist Chiaki Maki, founder of Maki Textile Studio (est. 1990), creates textiles rooted in the origins of making—spinning, dyeing, and weaving by hand.
In 2012 she established her atelier “ganga maki” in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas, where she cultivates plants for fiber and dye and produces works in close rhythm with the land.
This exhibition, “Voice of Nature,” presents around 40 art-textile works created from materials such as hand-reeled silk, banana fiber, wild silk, and Himalayan wool, often dyed with natural pigments including fermented indigo.
Through the meeting of human hands and nature’s quiet power, the works emerge as textiles that feel like landscapes.
